Cornering Every Niche in Standing Desks

When standing desks first started appearing online en masse they were pretty much all rectangular affairs. Cubicle denizens and those who wanted to have a standing desk placed into a corner didn’t have too many options. Nowadays all that has changed, and there are now so many options that we had to actually break this category up into two subcategories: “corner standing desks” and “L-shaped standing desks.”

You might be wondering “what’s the difference between a corner desk and an L-desk?” This is another one of those situations where some standing desk purveyors intermix the two labels, adding to the confusion. To be clear, here are the differences:

  • iMovR Energize Standing Corner DeskCorner standing desks may have two or three lifting legs but are always built with a single desktop. Most corner desks are also symmetrical in dimension, so a 47″x47″ desk would measure 47″ along each wall. The exception is a “pork chop” design that has one side longer than the other, but still made out of a single plank of wood. Corner standing desks are generally less expensive than full-fledged L-desks.

  • imovr lander l-shaped standing desk reviewL-shaped standing desks will always have three lifting legs, and always be constructed with two desktops mounted perpendicular to each other. L-desks are generally larger than corner desks, and allow for much more flexibility in terms of having the exact length you need against one wall versus the other. They also cost a lot more due to the fact that there are three legs instead of two and two desktop slabs instead of one. They weigh more, cost more to ship, and are generally (with the exception of iMovR’s Lander L-desk) much harder to assemble.

So in this round-up we’re going to include all the corner standing desks that we’ve lab tested and reviewed. If it’s really an L-desk that you’re looking for please see our comprehensive round-up of L-shaped Standing Desk Reviews. (Note for cubicle denizens, if you’re looking to replace fixed-height countertops with an adjustable-height desk you’ll probably find the size you need in the L-desk category since most corner desks only reach as far as 65″ per wall.)

A Question of Choice

Unlike the L-shaped standing desk category where each manufacturer (UpLiftJarvis and iMovR) offers multiple sizes and desktop surface options, in the corner category most vendors offer only one size, and very limited colors. The exception is iMovR which offers two desk lines—the Energize and Cascade—in a total of 24 desktop sizes, 16 colors of advanced Surf(x) 3D lamination, and three different base height ranges, for a total of 1,152 size+color desk combinations. Chances are if one of the Energize or Cascade corner desks doesn’t work for your space and decor then nothing on the market will.

The most commonly asked about corner standing desks are those from UpLift, UpDesk and iMovR, though we will add more to this round-up as they appear on the market. See our detailed reviews of each of these standing corner desks by clinking on the link below:
