ModTable Treadmill Desk Review

Overview

Review Summary

This is a bundle of two well-made but aging products, the original ModTable crank desk, and the Lifespan TR1200-DT3 treadmill base, both of 2011 vintage. Much nicer treadmill desks can be put together by using an adjustable-height desk that offers a full range of heights from sitting to walking to standing – such as any of the iMovR desk models, and more advanced, quieter, smaller, and more user-friendly treadmills like the ThermoTread GT.

Positives The ModTable Treadmill Desk is nothing more than a variation of the Manual ModTable Crank Height Adjustable Desk with the Extended Range option, combined with the LifeSpan TR1200-DT3 treadmill base.
Negatives You have two choices here: 1) purchase this bundle from MultiTable knowing the LifeSpan treadmill base is OEM'd, 2) purchase the Manual ModTable Crank Height Adjustable Desk from MultiTable and the treadmill from LifeSpan separately. The latter option nets you the same package, but with support from the original companies.

[Editors Note March 1, 2021: MultiTable may be the latest casualty of Covid-19, or at least that’s the messaging on their website as of today. Before we add a vendor to the Office Fitness Dead Pool we check a bunch of vital signs. Almost all items on the site are marked as “out of inventory” and unorderable, excepting some replacement parts. Website traffic is zero. As far as we can tell Multitable is no longer running ads. Truth is the company has been in a slide for several years, Covid-19 may just have been the final nail in its coffin as the pandemic’s impact on the ergonomic office furniture industry continues to take its toll. We leave this original review in place for posterity but by all outward appearances this early player in the height adjustable desk industry is no longer in business, unless through its ecommerce site.]

MultiTable is the manufacturer of ‘ModTable’ adjustable-height desks and they’ve joined forces with Lifespan Fitness to create a treadmill desk workstation dubbed the ModTable Treadmill Desk. It is simply the bundling of a customized variant of the ModTable Crank Height-Adjustable Desk and the LifeSpan TR1200-DT3 treadmill base.

You could buy this system from MultiTable with no price advantage or penalty compared to separately purchasing the treadmill directly from LifeSpan and the crank desk directly from MultiTable. We recommend buying them separately…

This ModTable-Lifespan bundled system is limited to one frame color and one specific use. Whereas all the other ModTable desk models adjust from sitting to standing heights, the one used in this bundle is only designed to accommodate walking users of varying heights – it does not descend far enough to be used as a sitting desk. Avoid that issue by sticking with any of the six iMovR desk models designed specifically for sitting, standing AND walking.

So is there any benefit at all to purchasing this bundle over mixing and matching components? Absolutely none.

Another reason to shy away from the bundle is that you may want a different treadmill base. For single-user, at home applications the LifeSpan TR1200 is perfectly good and sufficient (up to a 350 lb weight limit and 6 hours of use per day) but in a business office environment the iMovR ThermoTread GT would make a much better choice, being much quieter, smaller, better built, and more technologically advanced.
